The Report
On a windy, wet and cold day at Silverstream, St Pats Silverstream edged St Pats Town by 20-12. After a slow and sloppy start, Silverstream was quickest to settle and fullback Josh Robertson-Weepu opened the scoring with a penalty. Following Weepu’s penalty, points flowed for Silverstream. Some untidy passing by Town, inside their own 20, saw Chase Tiatia snatch a fumble and score a try out wide, Weepu converted for a 10-0 lead.
Silverstream’s lineout has improved considerably throughout the Williment Trophy series and lock Lui Okemoa-Luamanu was a menace for Town. His aerial work and driving play was excellent and he helped to create Silverstream’s second try, for Number 8 Vincent Sosefo, who peeled off a maul to barge over. With a plethora of ball, Silverstream started to play more expansively and Lester Maulolo’s pace resulted in a third try before halftime, 20-0 at the interval.
Town used the wind to rally in the second half and had they had more luck they might have snatched victory. First-five Jordon Meachen kept Silverstream pinned in their half and some good continuity by the forwards saw Number 8 Phillip Peni and prop Tamatasi Fidow score well-constructed tries. However the major talking point was fullback Harry Dalton being denied a try. Had he not being held up over the goal-line, the last 10 minutes which were ragged, might have been far more eventful!
Note: These two schools will feature in the annual traditional fixture on the Rugby Channel later in the season.
