Interest in college rugby might be at an all-time high. In 2012 the Rugby Channel’s Landrover First XV series televised 34 matches from Wakworth to Gore and no less than 12,000 spectators attended the 1A Auckland championship final at Eden Park.

Sacred Heart College opened in 1903 and in the first fifty years of their existence won five 1A Auckland Secondary Schools championships. In their next fifty years they would only win one championship. The 1906, 1939, 1945, 1948 and 1953 First XV’s enjoy a special place in the school’s history.
